Flies

Flies move between waste and food in seconds, carrying whatever they last landed on.

Musca domestica and related species

House flies and blow flies breed in waste, and then land on food. That is the whole problem in one sentence, and it is why fly control is a licensing issue for any premises handling food.

Numbers rise sharply in the warm months and around any site with organic waste, animal housing or poor bin management nearby.

Signs you have flies

  • Adult flies around bins, kitchens and serving areas
  • Small dark specks on walls, ceilings and light fittings
  • Maggots in bins, drains or spilled material
  • A sharp rise in numbers in the warm months

Why it matters

  • Transfers bacteria from waste directly onto food
  • A licensing and inspection failure for food premises
  • Customers see flies immediately, and remember
  • Contaminates open stock in shops and markets

How we treat it

Fly control is mostly about sources and barriers. We identify what is breeding them — bins, drains, spillage, standing organic matter — and treat or advise on it, then install the right catching equipment for the room: electric fly killer units with glue boards over food areas, high-voltage units elsewhere.

We service the units on a schedule, because a fly killer with a full glue board is just a light on the wall.
