Wasps

A wasp nest near a doorway or a play area is a genuine danger. Do not disturb it.

Wasps become defensive around the nest, and stings from a disturbed nest come in numbers rather than one at a time. A nest above a doorway, near a window or close to where children play needs dealing with quickly and properly.

Trying to knock a nest down or burn it out is how most serious sting incidents happen. It is not worth it.

Signs you have wasps

  • Steady traffic of wasps to a single point on a building
  • A papery grey nest in a roof space, wall cavity or hedge
  • Increased aggression in late season
  • Wasps around bins, fruit and sweet drinks

Why it matters

  • Painful stings, and a real danger to anyone allergic
  • Multiple stings from a disturbed nest
  • Makes doorways and outdoor areas unusable
  • Nests in cavities can damage plaster and insulation

How we treat it

We treat the nest directly, in protective equipment, and where practical remove it afterwards so it cannot be reoccupied. Treatment is usually done early or late in the day when most of the colony is at home.

If the nest is somewhere awkward — a wall cavity, a high roof void — tell us when you ring, so the technician arrives with the right access equipment.

Book a free site inspection

Tell us what you are dealing with and we will assess the site, identify the source and quote you a treatment plan — at no cost.
